Ball Control

Ball control is one of the vital skills a player must own.  Do you own the soccer ball when it comes to skill?  Can you control any ball played to you?  It is the fun and satisfying part of the game.  Here are a few Home Training Ideas:  (Adults: juggling is good exercise at the end of a busy day at the office.)

1)Start with a juggling warm up.  Juggling is a good way to develop ball control skill.  It is also a great way to warm up your body before stretching or playing.

A great tool that is actually better than juggling is working with a Technique Training Ball (Jimmy Ball).  Available at SoccerInnovations.com or ask for it at your local soccer store.  It allows you to strike the ball with all parts of the foot.  Very similar to juggling but more soccer technique specific.  It can only be played softly and generates hundreds of touches in a matter of moments.

2)  No Jimmy Ball?  No problem.
       a) Begin juggling with both feet.  Alternate back and forth with one touch per foot.  Your weak foot may         be your liability and if so, you must get it up to speed.  Work with your weak foot twice as much as with your good foot when juggling.
       b)  Juggle with your thigh's, juggle with your head.  Combine all of the above....
       c)  Juggle for 5-15 minutes before and after every practice!  Or juggle at home whenever you can....

3) When you can juggle a couple hundred times without a drop:
      a) Begin juggling on the run.  This is a great skill and more of a game related skill.
      b)  High Juggle:  Juggle the ball by playing it 10 feet in the air.  This is a challenge and will improve your
           ball control.
