Dribbling is more fun than jogging and a lot more valuable to your game skills, so, instead of going for a run, go out and dribble the ball. Here are a few simple ideas to add skill, fun and keep you from getting bored.
1) Throw out some obstacles. You can buy some official flat cones (SoccerInnovations.com) or you can use anything available. (Shoes, socks, t-shirts, other balls, etc...I used coffee cans when I trained as a kid.) If you want to take your training to the highest level, purchase the Soccer Wall Training Mannequins which add a degree of difficulty, while providing a more realistic and inspiring match like scenario. See a video of this product at (SoccerInnovations.com).
2) Dribbling Fundamentals: Create a straight course, a zig zag course, a really tight course, a really long and open course. Each of these will:
- Improve different dribbling techniques. (Speed Dribbling-Long Course, Sharp Cut Dribbling-ZigZag Course, Agility and Ball Control-Tight Course, Technique and Skill on all courses. )
- Prevent boredom as you are constantly changing.
- Better than jogging because your speed will vary, and your ball touch will improve and your footwork and coordination will improve.
3) Creative Dribbling: Make a 10 yard x 10 yard Square with your markers:
- Dribble inside the square.
Dribble freely inside the boundaries. Make as many turns as you can. Use both feet and cut, fake, hesitate etc., randomly, to develop an instinct for throwing your opponent off. Dribble in 60 second intervals with a 60 second rest in between.
